“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” – Mark Twain

I am aware that it might be a bit early for me to be posting about my upcoming trip to Spain, but I am in the mood. As I do often, I have been reading all the blogs of Spanish foreign exchange students, and it has gotten me excited! I will be leaving for Spain in September. I have an orientation sometime in May for Spain. I am going to the orientation in Florida because I can't attend the one in Georgia, and it sounds amazing! I can't wait to go and meet other people.

I will start off by telling you a little bit more about myself. My name is Katie Blackwell. I am 15 years old, and I am a freshman at Glynn Academy. I enjoy singing, dancing, photography, traveling, shopping, going to the beach, and more. I live on the coast of Georgia, so the weather here is pretty nice. I have always been interested in learning different languages and about different cultures. I have grown up traveling. My family and I have been to all 50 states. When I was in elementary school,  I always thought that I would learn French like my mother. I took French from Kindergarten until I moved after 3rd grade. I never was interested in learning Spanish, but I took it and loved it! Spanish came so easily. I took one semester of Spanish(Spanish I) online and then went to Spain that summer with a local private school. We spent 2 weeks in Spain learning about the culture and the language. I stayed in Salamanca with my host family and also met many friends from France, Italy, and Switzerland.

This is where my quote comes in to play. Meeting so many different people in these places led me to be more open minded to things. People do not control where they are born or what their culture is. We may think some things are strange in one place, but they think that our cultures and customs are strange. If we grew up in the same culture that they did, we would be just the same. We are all a product of our environment.

Thank you for reading this, and I apologize if I bored you.
